Never do business with voipo.com

Are you thinking of getting VOIP service? If so, I have an extremely strong disrecommendation for voipo.com. Do not do business with them no matter what you hear from them or elsewhere in the Internet.

Background: I have been using them for almost a decade. So, I’m not just an average disgruntled customer who didn’t get some discount or didn’t use the service enough. Further, the service quality itself is fine. My complaint is not about that and that’s not the reason you shouldn’t do business with them. The problem is they will bill you incorrectly and are absolutely incapable of fixing these mistakes in time.

Over the last three years, they have this crazy pattern where they simply keep charging me for multiple annual renewals without authorization (they have a credit card on file). Last two years after a few back and forth, they did reverse the charges. This year, they haven’t reversed these charges (two of them – each for $185) for well over three months. Every so often, I have to remember to poke them through their support channel and they respond saying they’re working on it. Have you ever heard of a business that cannot refund an admitted incorrect charge for well over three months? I am disputing this with my credit card too of course, but the whole idea that they can run a business with billing in such shambles is beyond ridiculous.

Finally, here’s a nice passive aggressive response from them to my last request to send my money back:

Thank you for your patience regarding this request. We’re showing that ticket is currently still pending with our Billing department–I’m very sorry for any delays. I assure you that we are not intentionally delaying, nor are we denying you, the refund due. We recently had encountered some issues with our billing system that has created multiple obstacles for our Billing department. Currently, our Billing department is working actively through support requests to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

We’ll get this over to our Billing department to stress these concerns and try to put a higher priority on your request. If for any reason the refund cannot be applied back to your card: Would you be able to provide us with the best mailing address to send that refund?

If you prefer a different refund method, we can also send it to you electronically using PayPal or Zelle. Just let us know which of those refund methods you prefer, along with the associated email address/username/phone number for that payment account, and we’ll make those arrangements promptly.

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Of course, that’s all just flowery words. This was well over one month ago and there’s absolutely no progress since then. All I can say is, if you are dealing with voipo.com – buyer beware. I would recommend looking elsewhere for your VOIP needs.
